Coming to America

It's Gran'ma again.  The time is here! The family of three is on the plane and headed to America.  Everything is ready here... Well, we do have a few balloons to fill with helium.  Tomorrow we will celebrate.  We are praying for a safe, easy flight. We can't wait for them to arrive tomorrow, July 27.  "What a day that will be!!" Mom and Dad are so excited to be bringing Judah home!  And the rest of us are somewhat "giddy" at this point.

Our Hearts are Singing!

Gran'ma is posting today for Mom and Dad who are still in Ethiopia with our grandson.  The joy I could hear in the voices of Jeff and Virginia was only surpassed by my first conversation with Baby Judah. I could never have imagined that I would get to hear him gleefully laughing and babbling so soon.  He is, by all accounts, such a good baby. He eats and sleeps well and enjoys interacting with Mom and Dad.  Jeff and Virginia have visited the children at the Gladney Houses (and will be sending photos soon). In addition, they visited the state-run orphanages where the needs are great.  They have Judah's visa and passport. "All things are ready" for the journey home next week. We are so blessed to have Judah join our family. One of our favorite songs is a song of praise to God that expresses our inability to describe the great love and adoration we have for our heavenly father. It has a line that paraphrased says, "Words cannot express...so listen to our hearts." That describes our love for this child and for the God who has led us to this point in our journey.  Mom and Dad sent these pictures of our precious Judah Wells Nix.  "Judah, listen to our hearts and feel the love!"

Destination Ethiopia

We left our North Carolina home and our little Westie Allie shortly after 10:00 a.m. on July 18.  We are now working our way through customs in Ethiopia.  We are safe after the long flight.  We know that God will continue to be with us as we await our introduction to our beautiful baby boy.  We are half-way around this wonderful world ready for our "big dream" to be real.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

                dream big.
That's exactly what we did 8 years ago when we had a conversation about adopting before we were married. We knew the day would come... and  today is the day. Bags are packed, home is (somewhat) in order, and nursery is ready...yet the reality still feels somewhat like a dream. People keep telling us we don't know how much our life is about to change. This is true. And because we know this is true, we've been intentionally spending extra quality time together as a couple...to remember, to celebrate, and to keep dreaming. I LOVE the almost 10 years we've had together as just us, and in some ways I don't want that to change. However, the words of my ever-so-positive husband  keep ringing in my ear..."Judah will make us even better. Our love will grow even deeper...for him, for each other, for the world, and for God. Trust me, we'll like ourselves better as parents...we're ready for this." Man, I love my husband....and I love that God has brought us to this place. We are humbled by His blessings and that He has asked us to care for His own.

"I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you." John 14:18
We are coming for you, sweet Judah!

Thanks to everyone who has, is, and will continue to pray for us. We leave today and return to the states July 27th. We ask that you pray for safe travels, good health, lots of smiles, and that God would reveal Himself more to us while in Ethiopia. We'll try to update the blog while we're there, but we can't guarantee. Blessings and many thanks!

Operation Nursery, Complete!

Details We Love About Judah's Room
Beautiful bedding lovingly made by Gran'ma

Artwork of an African scene painted by Great-Granddaddy Joe
You can read more about the oil painting here.

Bamboo flooring installed by Judah's Daddy!...and an adorable rug made by women in Africa.
You can read more about the rug here.

Vintage globe that will light up as Judah's night light...
Ethiopia is shining down on his crib.
Also, the mirror behind the globe inspired me because it reminded me of a lion's mane :-)

Artwork by young family friend and former neighbor, Talen Niven. Talen drew this star not long before we received our referral for Judah. It was delivered to us on April 27th, 2010, approximately one hour after we received our referral phone call and saw Judah's picture for the first time. In fact, we were on the phone with family members sharing our good news when a mutual friend knocked on our door and delivered the gift and said, "Talen wanted you to have this in hopes that your baby can find his way home." Wow. Apparently Talen had an intuition that our baby would be a boy, and he certainly found his way to us that very day, the moment the gift was delivered!

Loving Gladney Babies

One of the greatest joys since receiving our referral has been getting pictures and updates on Judah from other Gladney families. Also, seeing a picture of us in his crib (that was lovingly delivered by a Gladney family, along with other goodies) was awesome! We would like to do the same for someone else :-) If you would like for us to take pictures and/or deliver something special to your child, please email me a picture of your little one at nix.jandv@gmail.com. Also, please include your name/blog and email address, as well as your child's name and the # of their foster care home. If you will be mailing something to me, please remember that we are leaving soon, so I'd like everything by July 15th, so we can ensure packing space. Can't wait to love on these babies! Ok, back to the to-do list...we leave in 16 days!!!!
